A computer server holding years of research data by several CU engineering students was stolen last month.
CU Police Lt. John Kish said the server, which is a large storage device attached to computer networks, was stolen early in the morning of Nov. 18 from the Engineering Center on CU’s Boulder campus.
The server is an Aspen System Dual 2.66 GHz unit approximately three years old.
CU electrical engineering professor Kelvin Wagner said the data on the server would not be useful to anyone other than the researchers. Wagner emphasized that the data is extremely important to the graduate students, who spent years compiling the information.
Two rewards have been offered: one for $1,000 for information leading to the arrest of the thieves and another private reward offered for the return of the server and the data.
Persons with information are encouraged to call either the CU-Boulder Police at (303) 492-6666 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-444-3776. Crime Stoppers can also be reached on the Web at www.crimeshurt.com.
