Aurora – Former Broncos defensive back Tyrone Braxton has been arrested on suspicion of drug possession.

KUSA-TV in Denver reported that police responding to a call Saturday night of possible drug use found Braxton, 41, driving a car that a witness identified as carrying the suspect.

An officer smelled alcohol on his breath and found marijuana and cocaine on him, the television station reported.

Braxton, who went to the Pro Bowl in 1996 and was part of Denver’s back-to-back Super Bowl champion teams, told The Associated Press he was arrested after drugs were found in his car.

“It was just recreational drugs,” Braxton said Sunday. When asked if he used marijuana or cocaine, he responded: “It was in my car. That’s all I need to say right now.” Police spokesman Sgt. Rudy Herrera Jr. said he did not have access to the police report Sunday night.

Braxton, who has been working as a real estate agent, said he was worried about the effect of the arrest on his wife and children.

“That’s the worst thing that can happen,” he said. “Imagine if you have a 12-year-old daughter. She said she hates me because I got arrested for that.”
