DU lacrosse team tabbed to win league title
The University of Denver men’s lacrosse team was picked to win the Great Western Lacrosse League title, in a vote of the conference’s seven head coaches.
The Pioneers are coming off their best season in school history, when they won the league title with a 12-5 record and earned a bid to the NCAA Tournament.
Notre Dame was picked to finished second, followed by Ohio State, Air Force and Butler. Bellarmine and Quinnipiac were picked to finish in a tie for sixth place.
Denver, ranked No. 14 nationally, begins its season Feb. 17 against host Penn State. Air Force begins by hosting Siena on Feb. 25.
Metro State women upset No. 1 Emporia State
The Metro State women’s basketball team turned around a halftime deficit with a 17-2 run to begin the second half and upset Emporia State, ranked No. 1 in Division II, with a 76-70 victory late Saturday in the Coors Classic at the Auraria Events Center.
Regis upset No. 8-ranked St. Cloud State, 97-72, in an earlier game.
