Coaches salute soaring Falcons
The Air Force men’s basketball team has reached new heights, debuting Monday at No. 23 in the USA Today/ESPN coaches poll.
The only other time the Falcons were ranked in any basketball poll was when they were No. 25 in The Associated Press and coaches polls in March 2004 after winning the Mountain West Conference regular-season championship.
The Falcons (8-1) are the sixth team listed in this week’s “others receiving votes” category of the AP poll. Air Force has wins by more than 30 points over Colorado, Stanford and Wake Forest, and lost to Duke, now AP’s No. 7 team.
Air Force plays Wednesday against visiting Texas-Pan American.
The Falcons had an individual honor as well, as senior Dan Nwaelele was named the MWC co-player of the week along with Colorado State junior Jason Smith.
