Who: Nancy Samuel of Littleton and Michael Samuel of Los Angeles
Where: Maasai Village in the Maasai Mara National Reserve.
Best meal: Most of our meals were served buffet style, however we enjoyed our meals at Mount Kenya Safari Club the best. We also had a cocktail party in one of the many beautiful gardens there of which the line of the equator runs through one of them.
Best deal: Travel with the Micato Safari Company. Every place we toured was great, and the accommodations were excellent. We flew across the dramatic Great Rift Valley to the Maasai Mara, which has the largest population of lions in Kenya. Here we visited the tradition home of the nomadic Maasai people and their cattle. In the village the women sang a traditional song for us and welcomed us into their homes.
Best time to go: May, June, July or August. April is the rainy season. Remember their seasons are the opposite of ours.
Best travel tip: Travel light and take plenty of insect repellant. Drink plenty of bottled water. It’s best to get Kenya shillings when needed. Most places accept U.S. dollars. Hotels will exchange money for you.
