Colorado Springs – A man suspected of shooting to death Colorado Springs police Officer Ken Jordan was released from Memorial Hospital into police custody Thursday.

Marco Lee, 25, was treated for gunshot wounds to both arms. Lee allegedly shot Jordan four times, once in the front below his bulletproof vest and three times in the back of the neck and head area.

Lee was pulled over in the 4400 block of Fountain Boulevard on suspicion of drunken driving at 11:14 p.m. Monday. After he shot Jordan, two other officers at the scene returned fire.

Lee is being held without bail on suspicion of first-degree murder.

The former Sierra High School student is scheduled to make his first court appearance at 1:30 p.m. today in El Paso County Court. All court documents in the case have been sealed.

Jordan, 32, is the second police officer in Colorado Springs to have been killed in the past 10 months. Officer Jared Jensen was shot to death Feb. 22. Jen sen, who was in civilian clothes, was attempting to arrest Jereme Lamberth on an outstanding attempted-murder warrant when Lamberth shot him.

The president of the Colorado Springs Police Protective Association, which represents 655 sworn police officers, said the two killings show how routinely officers face violent, dangerous people.

“It may seem like it’s a rash of violent offenders running amok,” said Sgt. Otto Knollhoff, president of the PPA. “But I don’t see any kind of pattern. Unfortunately, sometimes the monster comes out in the neighborhood.”

Jordan, a DUI specialist and the third officer to arrive, was pronounced dead at Memorial Hospital at 12:18 a.m. Tuesday. He had been an officer for nearly seven years.

Jordan’s funeral will be at 1 p.m. Monday at New Life Church, 11025 Voyager Parkway.
