Snow is falling both to the west and to the east of Denver, but the metro area is expected to remain dry today.

The mountains are under a snow advisory, with up to a foot expected to fall. Chains are required for eastbound traffic at the Eisenhower Tunnel and on all major passes, particularly in the southwest portion of the state. The snow should taper off around 6 p.m.

Snow also is falling in Elbert and Kiowa counties southeast of Denver, with not much more than an inch expected.

Temperatures in the metro area will warm to the high 40s today, drop considerably tonight then warm gradually through the week.
