Former Post Broncos writer Adam Schefter is headed for the relationship Super Bowl: He’s getting married.
He lives in NYC and works for NFL Network – and on Saturday, before the weekend games, he asked his girlfriend of five months to be his wife. He’s keeping her name a secret but not news he’s in love.
They met on a blind date July Fourth – and it’s been game time ever since.
“I would have proposed to her the first day I met her,” he says. “I have never felt such inner peace and happiness. It’s unbelievable. I feel totally complete.”
He presented her with a half-carat ring as a gag, then had her 5-year-old son come in with the rock of Gibraltar. They’ll wed in New York in June.
Night at the opera
The $1,500-a-head, multicourse dinner for Andrea Bocelli went swimmingly Friday night at Venice Ristorante in LoDo. About 100 Denverites dressed up for the affair, which raised more than $100,000 for Bocelli’s kids’ charity in Pisa, Italy, and Denver’s Children’s Hospital.
For the most part, the crowd left Bocelli alone as he sat at a long table at the entrance to the dining room. Pat “Gabby Gourmet” Miller asked to take his picture – which was granted. Others just snapped away at the sightless singer. He spoke a few words during dinner – and even sang his trademark ballad “Time To Say Good-bye.”
And the old saw “It’s better to beg forgiveness than ask permission” was way off for Miller. Soprano Ailyn Perez was at Bocelli’s table and came up to Miller to tell her she was so polite to ask. She also got Miller’s digits – and arranged for Gabby to get two ninth-row center seats for the Saturday night concert.
Dawn
I went to see former Rocky society writer Dawn Denzer Saturday at Shalom Park – not that she would know. She was in rough shape, barely conscious. Aides said she is often more lively in the afternoons.
Denzer, 73, has Parkinson’s Disease among other maladies. And she spends her days now mostly alone, certainly out of the thoughts of the hundreds of society types she wrote about over the years. And she’s out of money.
Jamie Angelich is the keeper of the flame for Dawn. Lari Martin is a friend who is paid to visit Dawn, read to her, chat, rub her shoulders. A nice lady who is paid $17 an hour.
