Charges have been filed against two Green Mountain High School students who last week set off a homemade incendiary device in the school cafeteria.
The boys, ages 14 and 16, were advised of the charges Tuesday in Jefferson County juvenile court.
Charges include fourth-degree arson, a felony; reckless endangerment; and interfering or impeding school staff.
Investigators said the 16- year-old told them that he did it because he wanted notoriety.
Court records show the 16-year-old took a small glass bottle containing vinegar and baking soda to school on Dec. 6.
The 14-year-old assisted in planning the incident, authorities said. Their names are not being published because they are juveniles.
The device was duct-taped to the bottom of a lunch table and exploded while about 100 students were eating lunch, according to court records.
Two students were hit with pieces of the device and two others were splashed with liquid, records show.
No injuries or damage were reported.
A security officer notified the school resource officer. Responding to the scene were Lakewood police, West Metro fire investigators and Jefferson County sheriff’s deputies.
The boys were held at the Mount View Youth Services Center and have been released to their parents.
Both have been suspended pending further possible discipline, which could include expulsion.
