A man killed on the Boulder turnpike last week is believed to have committed suicide by stepping into the path of a truck.

The man was identified by the Colorado State Patrol as Brian Lutz, 25, a graduate student at CU-Boulder.

Lutz parked his Jeep Cherokee on the shoulder of U.S. 36 near Superior and got out.

A delivery truck hit Lutz at nearly 60 miles per hour, killing him instantly.

Master Trooper Ron Watkins said there was no way the truck driver could avoid hitting the man.

Authorities said they found paper on the driver’s seat of the Jeep but wouldn’t confirm if it was a suicide note. Lutz’s dog was found in the Jeep.
