Reality bites for Wade

Dwyane Wade had two wisdom teeth removed Tuesday, and the Miami Heat’s star guard will miss tonight’s game against the Phoenix Suns. Wade – averaging 28 points, fifth in the NBA – did not practice Tuesday. He began experiencing pain last week, and visited dentists three times before the decision was made to extract the teeth. “Anybody who has been through this knows the pain I feel,” Wade said after scoring 37 points to lead Miami to a 99-77 victory over the Toronto Raptors on Monday night. “Tooth problems can bring a grown man to his knees.” The team said Wade would be evaluated daily and could play Friday when Miami visits the Washington Wizards. Wade has led the Heat in scoring in each of its past 17 games, a team record.

Bowl us over

Can one have too many presents under the tree or too many bowl games on the television? ESPN vice president Dave Brown says there’s room for more bowling next season. “Some 6-6 teams from major conferences didn’t make bowls, so we could schedule more. We had an opening we didn’t fill at (2:30 p.m. MST) on Dec. 27. Forty bowls might be a stretch. But sure, we could do a few more.”
