Greig Smith on Thursday was named senior vice president of sales and marketing for the Denver Newspaper Agency, which handles business operations for The Denver Post and Rocky Mountain News.
Smith, currently senior vice president of advertising for the Salt Lake Tribune and Deseret Morning News, will assume his new duties in early January.
Smith “is noted for his innovation and his ability to move quickly,” said Harry Whipple, president and chief executive of the DNA since May.
“Both those qualities will serve our newspapers well as we anticipate some challenging growth opportunities in 2007,” said Whipple, who was formerly chief executive of the entity that manages business operations for the Salt Lake newspapers.
The Tribune is owned by Denver-based ap, the nation’s fourth-largest newspaper publisher and owner of The Post. The Rocky Mountain News is owned by Cincinnati-based E.W. Scripps Co.
Smith replaces Pamela Henson, who is leaving the DNA a little more than a year after her appointment. She will continue to be based in Denver and will work for Uniondale, N.Y.-based Yellow Book USA, handling training and recruitment for the West Coast.
Before his position in Salt Lake, Smith worked in advertising for the Sun-Sentinel of South Florida and The Times-Picayune in New Orleans. Early in his career, he sold computer services while based in the Arabian Gulf.
Smith, a native of New York City, holds a degree in marketing from American University in Washington, D.C. He is married and has three daughters.
