Houston Texans offensive coordinator Troy Calhoun, a leading candidate for the vacant head coaching job at Air Force, said his interview with AFA officials went well and he’s waiting to hear back from athletic director Hans Mueh.
“Everything went fine,” Calhoun told the Houston Chronicle. “They interviewed me for two hours. They said they would get back to me.”
Calhoun was the first coach to be interviewed to replace Fisher DeBerry.
Calhoun played for Air Force as a quarterback from 1985-89. He coached at Ohio and Wake Forest before moving to the NFL with the Broncos and on to Houston.
Air Force officials are thought to also have an interest in Larry Fedora, currently at Oklahoma State. Fedora was at Air Force from 1997-98. Also, Air Force is thought to be interested in Jappy Oliver, an assistant coach at Notre Dame, and Paul Hamilton, an Air Force assistant this past season. Oliver previously was on the Air Force staff.
When DeBerry retired, Mueh said he will not rush in finding a new coach but noted a desire to get the task completed as soon as possible.
