The Green Mountain Reservoir Ice Fishing Tournament is back. After a year in abeyance, the Kremmling Area Chamber of Commerce will sponsor a Jan. 13 event featuring $1,500 in prizes, ranging from $750 for first to $50 for fifth. Entry fee is $25.

On-site registration begins at 6 a.m., followed by the start of competition an hour later. Weigh-in will be at 3 p.m. Registration also may be made at Master Bait and Tackle in Heeney or through the chamber, kremmlingchamber.com/events.

Forest service seeks planning advice

Officials of the Pike and San Isabel national forests are seeking public input to develop a management plan to shape uses for the next 15 years.

The agency will use opinion gathered from seven meetings during January and February to help determine the balance between recreation, ranching, oil and gas development, logging, forest thinning and off-road vehicle use.

The meetings, all from 5:30-9 p.m., will be as follows:

* Jan. 17: Leadville, National Mining Hall of Fame, 120 W. 9 St.

* Jan. 18: Salida, Chaffee County Fairgrounds, 10165 County Road 120.

* Jan. 30: Denver, Clements Community Center, 480 S. Allison Parkway.

* Jan. 31: Colorado Springs, La Foret Conference and Retreat Center, 6145 Shoup Road.

* Feb. 14: Westcliffe, Ranchera’s Roost Cafe, 25 Main St.

* Feb. 15: Pueblo, El Pueblo Museum, 302 N. Santa Fe Ave.

* Feb. 21: Fairplay, Fairplay Fairbarn, 880 Bogue St.

Get the lead out

Pagosa Springs-based BossTin Company will offer a unique lead exchange program at its booth during the Denver International Sportsmen’s Exposition Jan. 25-28. In its efforts to educate the public on the environmental hazards of lead, BossTin will exchange a sample of its product for lead weights brought to the booth.

Standley lottery for boat permits

High demand has prompted Westminster officials to initiate a lottery system to allocate 550 boating permits at Standley Lake.

Previously, more than 1,000 applicants formed a line to apply for the limited number of permits, some camping overnight.

Application packets will become available Jan. 2 at the Standley Lake Regional Park Visitor Center, 100th Avenue at Simms Street and the Parks and Recreation office at City Hall, 4800 W. 92nd Ave.

Completed applications will be received at the Visitor Center between Jan. 15 and Feb. 5. Information on the process is available at www.ci.westminster.co.us/resfac/SL.
