GET HOOKED: For three years, The Wool Basket in Loveland (526 N. Cleveland, 970-203-0999) has specialized in traditional and primitive rug hooking, wool applique, rug braiding, needle felting and Russian punch needle embroidery. On Friday and Saturday, the store will celebrate its third anniversary with special demonstrations, refreshments and a 20 percent off sale. “It’s always exciting to introduce these crafts to new customers, and to help people bring their creations to life,” owner Karen Haskett says of the celebration. Hours during the event will be 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.

WALL BLING: Silver furnishings will outlast this year’s holiday decorating season, according to the Wallcoverings Association. The latest, hottest wallpaper designs showcase silver and other metallics applied to an array of textures and patterns, including classic damasks and toiles and more contemporary graphic prints. This vertical, wavy silver-and-black pattern from Seabrook’s A Cappella Collection showcases the trend. Read more about new wallpaper trends and products at wallcoverings.org.

HOT AND COOL: Fireplaces and outdoor fire pits get an interesting update with the products from Rasmussen Gas Logs & Grills, a California company manufacturing ceramic fireplace cones, cylinders, pyramids, cubes and squares. Use them individually for a minimalist effect, or together to transform the average fire into glowing abstract art. FireShapes come in various sizes and sell for $300 to $2,200. SNAPPY SCISSORS: We spotted these beauties at The Container Store with the gift-wrapping supplies. Magnetic Bird Scissors are gorgeous in the shape and colors of flying birds, and feature a handy magnet on the back for storage on the refrigerator, file cabinet or other steel surface. They come in orange, black or pink, and sell for $36.99. Even more adorable: The Container Store’s kiddie animal scissors shaped like ladybugs, frogs and ducks.
