Some fishing productions dazzle the viewer with stunning action sequences with trophy trout; others purport to educate.
A newly minted DVD by Colorado Springs angler Landon Mayer performs swimmingly on both counts. Titled “Landing the Trout of Your Life,” the 70-minute production features Mayer and noted Boulder fly designer John Barr in spectacular fish-catching sequences.
The locations include the South Platte River’s “Dream Stream,” Taylor River and Yampa River in Colorado, the North Platte in Wyoming and tributary streams of Lake Erie and Lake Ontario in New York.
The footage, shot in 2006, is exciting and artistic, and Mayer, noted for his big-fish expertise, demonstrates his tactics. Barr weighs in with advice on fly selection.
Priced at $29.95, the DVD will be available at the Mad Trout Media booth at The Fly Fishing Show next weekend in Denver and at numerous fly shops.
Mayer is among the presenters at the show. His program on catching trophy trout in Colorado will be held 3:30 p.m. Friday and 2:30 p.m. Sunday.
