State laws that didn’t go into effect in July generally go into effect Jan. 1. They include:
Property: State law now requires home-sale contracts to disclose whether the property was ever used as a methamphetamine laboratory.
Motor vehicles: Persistent drunken divers can receive a probationary license only if they use an ignition interlock device, which tests drivers and shuts down the car if alcohol is detected.
Insurance: Car insurance companies must provide customers with a uniform, written disclosure explaining the policy.
Sickness and accident insurance generally cannot limit or exclude payments because the insured suffered injuries while intoxicated or under the influence of a controlled substance.
Immigrants: Business permits are denied to illegal immigrants.
