Alecia Steele, a junior forward on the Air Force women’s basketball team, and UNLV sophomore center Shamela Hampton on Monday were named Mountain West Conference basketball co-players of the week, the league said.

It was the first such honor for Steele, who scored a career-high 26 points as the Falcons erased a 13-point deficit to top Weber State 78-73 on Saturday.

Hampton, a graduate of Colorado Springs’ Sierra High School, averaged 23 points last week, including a career-high 30-point effort against Nevada, in helping UNLV to two victories.

Wyoming forward Anderson dismissed

Chris Anderson, a senior forward on the Wyoming men’s basketball team, was declared academically ineligible and has left the team, coach Steve McClain said.

Anderson, who transferred from Eastern Utah Community College, played in 62 games for the Cowboys during his career, starting 12. He averaged 3.5 points and 2.6 rebounds during his career.

CHL’s Rage finally wins again on the road

The Rocky Mountain Rage of the Central Hockey League on Sunday earned a 3-2 shootout victory over the host Oklahoma City Blazers at the Ford Center, snapping a 14-game road winless skid.

Anders Strome and Bret DeCecco scored in regulation for the Rage (8-16-3) and Dominic Noel tallied the game-winner in the shootout. It was Rocky Mountain’s first road win since the opening night of the season, Oct. 13, also against Oklahoma City.
