Nearly 11.1 million vehicles traveled through the Eisenhower/Johnson tunnels in 2006, the highest annual volume in their 33-year history, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation.
CDOT said the tunnels also set a record on Dec. 26, 2006 when 47,743 vehicles used the tunnels.
It was the eighth-highest 24-hour count ever and the first time a day in December made the top ten list, the state said.
