Federal aid has been made available for six additional Colorado counties to help recover costs associated with back-to-back blizzards.
El Paso County has been added to the emergency snow declaration for the storm that started Dec. 20. Baca, Bent, Crowley, Prowers and Pueblo counties also have been added for the storm that began Dec. 28.
The federal government this week made federal aid available to 13 other Colorado counties to pay for snow removal, overtime costs for county personnel and sheltering operations.
The Colorado Cattlemen’s Association estimates that 8,000 cattle have been found dead in southeastern Colorado after they were trapped by snowdrifts as high as 12 feet.
