The snow in the metro area may have stopped for now but Colorado will not be thawing out any time soon. The high today in Denver is expected to reach 7 degrees. More snow is expected in the ski areas.
There is a 30 percent chance of snow showers in Denver during the day under partly cloudy skies with a calm wind. An accumulation of less than a half inch is possible.
Tonight more snow is likely in the metro area, mainly after 11 p.m. Temperatures will drop, with a low of around -1 expected. With the wind chill the temperatures will be between -6 and -11. The chance of precipitation is 70 percent, with a new snow accumulation of less than one inch possible.
Heavy snow continues to fall on Colorado s Western Slope with many ski resorts west of the Continental Divide getting some fresh powder.
A snow and blowing snow advisory is in effect until 6 p.m. on Saturday for the areas near Aspen, Vail and Snowmass. Those areas should get 6 to 12 inches of snow with gusty winds.
A snow advisory is in place until 6 p.m. on Saturday for the area around Steamboat Springs and that area could see 5 to 10 inches of snow.
In southern Colorado, a winter storm warning is in place until 6 p.m. Saturday for the areas near Crested Butte, Telluride and Lake City. Those areas could get 16 to 24 inches of snow by Saturday afternoon. The higher elevations around Grand Junction and Glenwood Springs are also under the warning and could get 10 to 16 inches of snow.
There could also be heavy winds, which could create blowing snow.
The Arctic cold front is expected to leave the area by Tuesday of next week.
