Getting your player ready...

The five wayward snowshoers who were plucked from Tennessee Pass last Saturday by a helicopter were given a free ride thanks to their forward thinking: Each had purchased a Colorado Outdoor Recreation Search and Rescue card.

The $3-a-year ($12 for five years) CORSAR card funds search-and-rescue missions in Colorado. Any money left in the Colorado Search and Rescue Fund at the end of the year goes toward training and equipment for Colorado’s volunteer search-and-rescue teams. The card does not cover medical evacuations, but cardholders do not have to pay for helicopters used in a search. If you ever venture off a paved road in Colorado, you should own this card.

Get it — More than 300 stores (including all REIs) in Colorado sell CORSAR cards. Cards also can be purchased online at: www.dola.state.co.us/search_rescue/main
