Forest Whitaker recently finished a commercial for People for the Ethical Treatment for Animals’ (PETA) website, contact music.com reported. Whitaker, whose role as the murderous dictator Idi Amin in “The Last King of Scotland” may earn him an Oscar nomination, and his 7-year-old daughter, True, spout the benefits of a meat-free diet in the ad. Whitaker says, “Life is full of choices, and many years ago, I chose to become a vegetarian. (It) was one of the best choices I’ve ever made.”

Kate Winslet may be a big- time actress but she gets her biggest thrill from her two children, Alfie, 3, and Mia, 6. Winslet told In Style magazine: “Mia said to me the other day in the car, ‘Mum, I love your cooking.’ To me, it was an incredibly triumphant moment, the fact that she observed I do cook their meals. It’s great when the mum can be a person who represents those nurturing things for kids. My mum certainly was that.”

Robert De Niro may be part owner of a popular restaurant, but his partner says the actor stays out of the kitchen. Nobu is about to open its 17th restaurant, in Hong Kong, and celebrity Japanese chef Nobuyuki Matsuhisa says De Niro refuses to offer culinary advice. “He likes to eat. He likes to drink. But he never stays in the kitchen,” Matsuhisa is quoted by contact music.com. “He’s a good partner. He understands my philosophies. He trusts me 100 percent about the food.” De Niro is expected to attend the Feburary opening ceremony of the Hong Kong branch. Other Nobu locations include New York, Milan, London and Tokyo.

Celebrities are offered free drinks and food all the time at restaurants. But Orlando Bloom was stunned by the generosity of a visitor at London’s new Crystal nightclub recently. According to ananova.com, Bloom was presented with a 6-liter bottle of Cristal champagne worth nearly $65,000.
