Two male friends in their 20s were killed early this morning when their car sped off a bridge in Greeley and crashed onto railroad tracks about 20 feet below, according to the Colorado State Patrol said.

Owen Leffler, 26, of Greeley, who was driving; and Christian Mock, 27, of Eaton were pronounced dead at the scene.

The State Patrol said that at about 2:20 a.m., Leffler’s 1997 BMW convertible was headed down U.S. Hwy 85 near “O” Street in Greeley when it flew off the overpass and dropped 20-25 feet down onto the Union Pacific railroad tracks.

Neither man was wearing seat belts, according to investigators, and both were ejected. One of the men died near the car and the other was pinned under the wreckage, troopers said.

High speed, drugs and alcohol were suspected to be contributors to the crash, the State Patrol said.

Traffic was diverted for several hours as crews cleaned up the scene. Union Pacific diverted its rail traffic to other tracks during the cleanup.
