Lewis Ratcliff scored six goals and also contributed three assists Saturday night as the Calgary Roughnecks handed the Colorado Mammoth its first loss of the season, 17-13, in a National Lacrosse League game at the Saddledome in Calgary, Alberta.

The Mammoth (4-1) had been the last undefeated team in the NLL. Calgary improved to 2-1.

Brian Langtry led Colorado with four goals. Gavin Prout added two goals and six assists.

Army gains series split with Air Force

Coming off a 4-1 loss to Air Force on Friday night, Army returned to Cadet Ice Arena on Saturday and blanked the Falcons 2-0 before 2,381 fans for a split of the rivals’ Atlantic Hockey Association series.

Josh Kassel’s 36 saves rescued Army (11-9-3, 11-6-3 AHA), which was outshot 36-10. Chase Podsiad (power play) and Luke Flicek scored for the Black Knights.

“Kassel was outstanding,” AFA coach Frank Serratore said of the Army goaltender, who had the second shutout of his college career. “We played hard and played pretty well, but he was spectacular.”

Air Force fell to 12-9-5 and 9-4-5.

Colorado College got a goal from five players and routed the U.S. under-18 team 5-1 in an exhibition hockey game at the World Arena in Colorado Springs.

DU, CU skiers shine at Montana State meet

The University of Denver men’s nordic team, skiing in heavy snow Saturday, won the 20-kilometer classic event at the Montana State Invitational while Colorado extended its lead in the team competition.

The Buffaloes have 449.5 points and DU has 396. Utah is third with 359.5 points and Western State eighth with 188. Wyoming ranks 10th with 27 points.

DU’s Rene Reisshauer won his second straight classic event, finishing in 1 hour, 6 minutes, 38.34 seconds. CU’s Matthew Gelso was third in 1:06:53.87. CU’s Maria Grevsgaard won the women’s 15K classic in 53:09.12 and teammate Kristin Ronnestrand was fourth in 54:42.36.
