This is the early leader for best small SUV for the money.
In my last review, of the ’07 Honda Fit, I talked a lot about the explosion
of new, smaller cars and the boost in quality and performance we’re
witnessing in this category. I mentioned a ton of other cars in the
category – the Toyota Yaris, the Mazda3, the Chevy Aveo, etc. – and I tried
to cover the gamut.
I missed one. And, as it turned out, I missed the best
one: the ’07 Suzuki SX4 AWD.
All new in 2007, I just wasn’t aware that Suzuki had a vehicle in this
category, and to be honest I didn’t think of Suzuki because my last few
experiences with the line have not been great. This is a major oversight on
my part, and I should have known better. With the ascendancy of Honda and
Toyota in every category, and the rise of the Koreans, Kia and Hyundai, in
quality in many categories, I should have known that Suzuki had to make a
move.
With this SX4, Suzuki is more than making a move. They are taking
leadership.
