Delray Beach, Fla. – The woman received a notice that payments were due on a storage locker her late parents had rented. She and her husband flew to Florida to see what was in it.
Amid dusty furniture and other relics was the body of a baby boy. It was wrapped in a 1950s newspaper, inside a suitcase.
“We certainly have a mystery on our hands,” Officer Jeff Messer, a Delray Beach police spokesman, said Tuesday.
Police would not identify the family. The storage unit had been rented since 1996, they said. The man died several years ago. His wife died last year.
When the daughter found the baby Monday, she called police. Officials said the baby appeared to be a boy. They believe the baby died in the 1950s. But they have little more to go on.
“Right now, we aren’t able to determine the cause of death,” Messer said. Police also don’t know whether anyone else had access to the storage unit.
