Frontier Airlines has been officially designated a “major” airline by the U.S. Department of Transportation. The carrier described the designation as “a critical growth milestone.”
Twenty-two airlines are in that group, defined as carriers that have more than $1 billion in revenue over a 12-month period. Carriers in Frontier’s new ilk range from Comair and ExpressJet Airlines to American and United Airlines.
Previously, Frontier was just a “national” airline. The Denver-based airlines has 55 Airbus planes and flies to 48 U.S. cities and ten international airports.
