The Dallas Mavericks of the National Wheelchair Basketball Association finished undefeated at the North American Wheelchair Basketball Tournament on Sunday at Colorado Christian University in Lakewood. Led by Paul Schulte’s 32 points and Jeff Glasbrenner’s 28, the Mavericks (3-0) downed the Milwaukee Bucks 91-69 on the second day of the two-day tournament.
In the other game, British Columbia (2-1) defeated the Denver Nuggets (1-2) 83-69 behind Pat Anderson’s 35 points and 16 rebounds. The Nuggets got 13 points and 14 rebounds from Adam Lancia.
UNC wrestlers rock Portland State 46-3
The Northern Colorado wrestling team earned three victories by pin to cruise past Portland State 46-3 in Greeley.
The Bears (4-6) got pins from Kenny Hashimoto at 141 pounds over Greg Einerson in 50 seconds, Richard Lohr at 149 over Joe Vanaman in 2:53, and heavyweight Reece Hopkin over Zach Smith in 3:37. Portland dropped to 1-10.
Springs’ Compton gets cyclocross silver
Colorado Springs’ Katie Compton won a silver medal in the elite division at the International Cycling Union’s Cyclocross World Championships in Hooglede-Gits, Belgium. It was the first world championship medal earned by an American woman in elite cyclocross. Compton, a three-time national champion, was making her world championship debut. France’s Maryline Salvetat won gold, and Boulder’s Karry Barnholt finished 15th.
