The University of Denver on Wednesday named former Wake Forest assistant Bobby Muuss its new men’s soccer coach, vice chancellor Peg Bradley-Doppes said.

Muuss replaces former Pioneers coach Chad Ashton, who is now an assistant for D.C. United of Major League Soccer. Over six seasons as an assistant at Wake Forest, Muuss helped the team to six NCAA Tournament appearances. He also was an assistant at Connecticut when the Huskies won a national championship in 2000.

T-Ridge alum Bouldin earns WCC honor

The West Coast Conference named Gonzaga freshman guard Matt Bouldin, a graduate of ThunderRidge High School in Highlands Ranch, the league’s player of the week. He’s the first freshman this season to earn the award Bouldin last week helped the Bulldogs extend their streak to 49 straight home wins. He is averaging 8.5 points and 3.9 rebounds this season, but averaged 17.0 points, 3.5 assists and 2.5 rebounds last week against San Francisco and San Diego.

CHL’s Eagles still undefeated against Hounds

The Colorado Eagles of the Central Hockey League snapped a two-game losing skid, downing the Youngstown SteelHounds 5-2 in a penalty-filled game at the Budweiser Events Center in Loveland. The Eagles killed 13 Youngstown power plays and moved to 6-0 all-time against the Steelhounds. Brad Williamson’s three assists and Ryan Toblers’ two goals led Colorado.
