White-knuckle fliers can sign up for a nine-week course offered by the Colorado Chapter of the Ninety-Nines, a group of female pilots, and sponsored by Frontier Airlines. Participants learn about the physiology of fear, study the physics that keep planes in the air, and tour Frontier’s flight simulator, maintenance base and air traffic control. Cost is about $385, depending on the ticket price of the graduation flight to Salt Lake City. Call Donna Miller at 720-374-2021 or Bonita Ades at 303-795-6564.

KGNU-FM listeners know Oakland, Calif.-based David Gans as host of “The Grateful Dead Hour,” author, photographer, music producer, expert on all things tie-dyed. But many don’t know that Gans is a musician in his own right with a sweet, soulful singing voice and formidable chops as a guitarist and songwriter. He’s making a pair of Colorado appearances: Wednesday in Dolores with The Lindells, and a solo electric set Feb. 11 at Dulcinea’s 100th Monkey.

What the world needs now are boots: tall enough to walk through the snow, sharp enough to stop traffic. Outstanding kicks from the Corral Boots line, made in Leon, Mexico, complement clothes from Modern Cowgirl, Komarov and Sitka Belts. Walk out with a pair of purple eelskin boots and a “Never Jilt a Woman Who Can Shoot” tee and you’re set until spring. They’re at the end of the boardwalk in downtown Evergreen.
