Blizzard chills home sales

For the 24,534 Denver homeowners who had homes listed for sale in December, showings, offers and closings dropped sharply when the first blizzard hit Dec. 20.

Sixty-seven percent of metro real estate agents say winter weather has had an impact on their business, according to a survey by Jordan Graham of Clarion Mortgage. Fifty-eight percent reported that snow-removal issues have kept them from showing some properties to their clients.

Most real estate agents surveyed said the weather has delayed home sales, and 82 percent expect business to pick back up when the weather improves.

Ski units take off

Eagle Resort Development’s $56 million WestWall Lodge has opened at the base of Mount Crested Butte.

WestWall Lodge has 44 one-, two-, three- and four- bedroom residences in three buildings that wrap around a four-season outdoor pool, hot tub and fire pit.

Eagle Resort broke ground on the project after the ski area was sold to new owners in March 2004. The units sold quickly, with Eagle reserving a few that are still available. The success of WestWall Lodge prompted the firm to break ground on Wildhorse at Prospect, which includes 55 single-family and paired homes on 25.5 acres near the Gold Link and Prospect chair lifts.

Baby boomers do-it-yourselfers

More and more baby boomers are selling their homes themselves, according to a survey by Owners.com.

The survey of nearly 5,000 home sellers found that 44 percent of people selling homes themselves were older than 45, and 7 percent were older than 65.
