For that considerable segment of the fishing fraternity that gains satisfaction from tying flies, it is a day anticipated since, well, the rivers froze. Mark it down: Feb. 10, this Saturday.
For this 31st celebration of the West Denver Fly-Tying Clinic, organizers have outdone themselves. No fewer than five dozen of the region’s most skilled artisans will demonstrate techniques and patterns at the traditional Jefferson County Fairgrounds location. The result will be a veritable orgy of fur, feathers and synthetics, always with an eye toward new developments in flies and ways to use them. The 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m. affair costs $9 at the door. Coupons for a $2 discount are available at fly shops or at West Denver Trout Unlimited’s website, www.westdenvertu.org.
A special theater will offer feature presentations, including: Joe Butler and Jim Lewis, flies for big fish; Kirk Webb, flies for the Roaring Fork Valley; Boomer Stout, flies for the Green River; Charlie Craven, favorite patterns; Larry Kingery and Chris Anderson, flies for the Arkansas River; Pat Dorsey, favorite patterns.
