A 22-year-old woman was struck and killed by a passing SUV as she got out of her car following a fender bender accident on Highway 287 in Broomfield, officials say.
The name of the woman from Adams County who was killed in the Friday night accident has not yet been released pending notification of family members, said Sgt. H. R. Walts of the Broomfield police department.
At about 7 p.m., a gold Toyota Camry and a black Pontiac Bonneville collided on the eastbound loop of Highway 287 just west of Highway 121 in Broomfield, Walts said.
Following the accident, the drivers of the two cars climbed out of their cars and were checking for damage when a dark gray Chevrolet Trailblazer rammed the rear car, causing a chain reaction.
The SUV pushed the Pontiac from behind into the Toyota, and the woman was struck by one of the cars sometime during the multiple collisions, Walts said.
The 35-year-old man who drove the Pontiac was not injured, nor was the 40-year-old woman who was driving the SUV, she said.
Icy road may likely contributed to both accidents, Walts said.
Investigators do not believe that any of the drivers were affected by alcohol or drugs, Walts said.
No charges have been filed, but the case is still under investigation by the Broomfield Technical Accident Investigation Team, she said.
