DENVER-

State lawmakers introduced a bill Tuesday they said would make it easier for troops overseas to vote in Colorado elections.

The bill (House Bill 1149) would create an exception for military personnel who are serving overseas in a combat zone by allowing them to apply for an absentee ballot without personally signing the application.

The bill would also give a commissioned officer the authority to submit the unsigned application on behalf of troops serving in the combat zone.

“Helping our heroes overseas take part in the democratic process is a top priority for us especially during this time of conflict,” said Rep. Joe Rice, D-Littleton.

Lawmakers said the proposed law has been endorsed by veteran organizations from around the state.
