This spring marks the opening of a new public gallery and the beginning of phase four in the $32 million life- safety project at the state Capitol.
The gallery, Mr. Brown’s Attic, is a 2,000-square-foot public gallery dedicated to the historical significance of Colorado’s statehouse. It is named after Henry Cordes Brown, who donated the land for the building in 1868.
Fentress Bradburn Architects will start phase four of the life-safety project in May, bringing online the third of four new pressurized exit stairways. To date, improvements include a new fire command center, fast-acting fire sprinkler system, smoke detection, fire alarm and annunciation, fan controls, emergency lighting and exit signs.

“There’s a lot of demand on the west side right now for product,” Bruce said. “There are a lot of tenants who take these spaces and build them almost 100 percent office.”
Condo makeover on track
The $7 million renovation of The Gant Condominiums in Aspen is expected to be completed in July.
The three-year project, done by Design Workshop and Four Seasons Landscaping, focused on enhancing the property’s grounds and common areas. The Gant’s newly landscaped 5 acres will include outdoor lounging areas, running streams, wrought-iron art panels, and indigenous rock and plant gardens.
The eco-friendly landscape design earned the 2006 Environmental Improvement Grand Award from The Professional Landcare Network.
The property’s 5,000-square-foot conference center was refurbished with new decor, carpet and lounge and meeting furnishings.
