Nassau, Bahamas – Photos of Anna Nicole Smith in bed embracing the Bahamian immigration minister who approved her application for permanent residency here revived a political scandal in the islands Monday.
Two photos published on the front page of The Tribune of Nassau Monday showed Smith and Immigration Minister Shane Gibson, both fully clothed, embracing on a bed.
Gibson, a member of Parliament from the ruling Progressive Liberal Party, already has been accused of showing Smith preferential treatment by fast-tracking her residency application last year.
Cassius Stuart of the Bahamas Democratic Movement said Gibson “shamed” the Bahamas and urged him to resign. Gibson did not return calls for comment.
John Marquis, Tribune managing editor, declined to say who provided the photos. He said he published them because of their potential political impact.
Three men have claimed paternity of Smith’s 5-month-old daughter, Dannielynn. Her companion Howard K. Stern is listed on a birth certificate as the father, while an ex-boyfriend, Larry Birkhead, has filed a suit claiming he is the father.
Prince Frederic von Anhalt said Monday that he plans to file a paternity challenge to gain custody of the baby, even if it costs him his marriage to Zsa Zsa Gabor.
The baby stands to potentially inherit a fortune from Smith’s late husband, oil tycoon J. Howard Marshall II.
Von Anhalt, 59, and Gabor, 90, have been married for more than 20 years. The news of her husband’s alleged affair has deeply upset Gabor, according to von Anhalt.
“She says, of course, ‘If you bring a baby home, then it’s over,”‘ he said. “If my wife wants to divorce me, then it’s up to her.”
