New York – The New York edition of Hoy, a Spanish-language newspaper built by Newsday, has been sold for an undisclosed amount to ImpreMedia, publisher of the rival El Diario La Prensa, officials said Monday.

The sale ends an eight-year competition between the two daily papers, as well as a turbulent period for Hoy, which was engulfed by a 2004 scandal in which its circulation was found to be inflated about double.

New executives at Hoy had begun a turnaround by converting to free distribution in 2006. Hoy’s core market is in New York City and New Jersey.
