Golden – Miners Alley Playhouse’s Feb. 25 performance of “Deathtrap” will be a benefit for former cast member Pete Nelson, who was recently diagnosed with colon and liver cancer.
Nelson has appeared in dozens of metro-area theater productions since moving to Denver in 1996. He has most often been seen in MAP productions such as “The Rainmaker.” He also recently appeared in “The Weir” for the Victorian Playhouse in Denver.
Nelson left the cast of “Deathtrap” after his cancer diagnosis and will undergo surgery Feb. 23, followed by aggressive chemotherapy.
The goal is to raise $10,000 to help Nelson defray his medical expenses.
“Because of the nature of the cancer, Pete may be out of commission for quite some time, and we are asking for your generous support,” said director Rick Bernstein. “Unfortunately Pete will not be on stage, but we want to pay tribute to all the great work, great roles and great memories that he has created for all of us.”
Said Kellie Rae Rockey, Nelson’s castmate in “A Delicate Balance”: “Pete said he is grateful for the support so many friends have already shown.”
The Feb. 25 performance of “Deathtrap” begins at 6 p.m., with the lounge and box office opening an hour earlier.
“All ticket sales and bar revenues will be donated to Pete because we love him,” Bernstein said.
