Camcorder comes in colors

You can spice up your next photo shoot with one of DXG’s colorful new digital camcorders. Available in pink, blue, black or silver, the DXG-506V 5-megapixel digital camcorder can take snapshots, capture video with a resolution of 640 by 480 pixels at 30 frames per second, make voice recordings, play MP3 tunes and work as a webcam. It has a 1.7-inch flip-out color LCD screen, 32 megabytes of built-in memory and a slot for a Secure Digital memory card. It costs $150.

“Say it right” in 12 languages

The 12-language Speaking Global Translator can pronounce more than 450,000 words and 12,000 phrases in Mandarin Chinese, Dutch, English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Polish, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish. Plus, it displays the correct pronunciation of words phonetically on its LCD screen. The hand-held gadget also features an MP3 player, a voice recorder, a slide-out keyboard, a world clock, an alarm clock and a currency converter. The TGA-490 model will go on sale next month for $230. A nonspeaking version of the translator, the TGA-470 model, is available for $100.

Hand-held device knows where you are

Whether you’re walking or driving, DeLorme’s Earthmate GPS PN-20 hand-held receiver can help you reach your destination without any unexpected detours. The Global Positioning System device ships with mapping software containing U.S. street maps, topographic maps, black-and-white aerial images and colorized satellite images. The device also boasts a color screen, a 12-channel receiver, 75 megabytes of built-in memory, audible turn alerts, and a slot for an SD card. The waterproof device costs $370.

Kodak ink replacement less expensive

Even if you’re not in the market for a new printer, Kodak’s new multipurpose printers are worth a look. Why? When it’s time to replace their ink cartridges, you’ll experience “reverse” sticker shock: A black-ink cartridge costs just $10 while a five-ink color cartridge is $15, which is considerably less than the going rate for competitors’ cartridges. The new line includes the Kodak Easy Share 5100 All-in-One Printer, a $150 model that can print, scan and copy. Kodak also makes an EasyShare 5300 machine with a 3-inch color LCD display and memory card slots for $200 and an EasyShare 5500 model with a 2.4-inch LCD display, an automatic document feeder and fax capability for $300. The printers will go on sale this spring.
