Reggie McDaniel, host of The Everyday People’s Entertainment Guide, Saturday and Sunday afternoons on KOA 850-AM, is almost as well known for his sartorial splendor – think fine suits in orange, mustard, cobalt or green, accented by shoes almost as bright – as his everyman taste in movies. We checked in to see who and what’s gonna be stylish during the 79th Academy Awards tonight. – Dana Coffield
Any predictions about who’s gonna be looking good on the red carpet tonight? I’ll tell you who: the cast of “Dreamgirls,” because this is their first time being nominated, except Jamie Foxx. They gonna be sharp. They gonna be dressed to the nines.
What will women be wearing? Women gonna be old Hollywood, and the reason I say that is that the last couple of years women have been getting more and more Hollywoodish and getting better accolades by Joan Rivers and her daughter. The ones who experiment get dogged out. Ladies are learning their lessons. I think we’re gonna be seeing long, flowing dresses but not too many V-necks. They’re going to be showing off their bodies without showing off their bodies, if you know what I mean.
Men? We don’t have many adventurous men, except for if (Funkadelic frontman) George Clinton comes. The rest of them gonna be wearing black and gray.
What would you wear? Last time I went to the Oscars I wore a light purple suit.
Purple? It catches your eye. If it’s offset right, with the right shoes and the right shirt it can get you a compliment. And that’s what the Oscars are about: networking.
Did you meet anyone interesting? The purple suit worked for me. I got invited to a party with Monica Lewinsky and met people that I needed to meet. Chris Rock was there, and so was Tyra Banks.
You going this year? Naah. I’m going to watch it on TV. I got invited to a couple of parties, and I might go to one.
Is it better live or in person? It was fun to go. But it’s more fun to watch on TV because you get to see everything you missed when you go.
Any picks you’d like to share? For best picture, it probably will be “The Departed.” Martin Scorsese will win best director for “The Departed”; it has to be best picture.
Is that the movie you liked best? Out of the ones that got nominated, but the best movie of the year was “16 Blocks,” with Bruce Willis.
Who do you like for best actor? It should be Forest Whitaker for “The Last King of Scotland,” but it will probably go to Peter O’Toole, who is close to dying. He’s nominated for “Venus,” and he plays an actor who specializes in dying. It might make the academy think “Hey, we better honor this cat now.”
Best actress? Helen Mirren for “The Queen.” And it probably should be her.
