World War II veteran Ernest Peterson of Longmont, 86, an Army sergeant who landed on Omaha Beach in France and fought in the Battle of the Bulge, attended a ceremony Thursday at the town’s American Legion Hall in which he was presented his long-overdue military medals by U.S. Rep. Marilyn Musgrave.

Among the medals Peterson received were the Sharpshooter Badge and Rifle Bar; World War II Victory Medal; European- African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal and Bronze Star Attachment; and the American Campaign Medal.
