A National Guard training helicopter made an emergency landing in a forested wilderness area in Eagle County today.

Four people were on board but none was injured, according to Guard spokesman Lt. Darrin Overstreet, who called it “a precautionary landing.”

The Huey UH-1 helicopter went down 14 miles west of Eagle for unknown reasons, he said. The four crew members were rescued by another helicopter.

He didn’t know what shape the helicopter was in after the crash landing.

“We have a crew going up there to check it out,” he said.

The downed helicopter was on a training mission out of the guard’s High Altitude Training Site in Eagle County, a small airfield where National Guard pilots train helicopter pilots from all over the world in the difficult maneuvers at high altitudes.
