ST. LOUIS-
The funeral service for running back Damien Nash, who collapsed and died after a charity basketball game, will be Monday in St. Louis, the Denver Broncos announced Tuesday.
The club said visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. at Ronald L. Jones Funeral Chapel in St. Louis, with the funeral service set for 10 a.m. Monday at Friendly Temple Missionary Baptist Church.
Nash died Saturday, and the cause remained unclear Tuesday. An autopsy was performed Sunday, but test results are pending, the St. Louis County Medical Examiner’s office said. A pathologist who is a heart expert has been called in to look at Nash’s heart.
Nash collapsed in his suburban St. Louis home after returning by limousine with his wife, Judy Nash, and their daughter from a game at his high school to benefit The Darris Nash Find a Heart Foundation. The organization raises money for heart transplant research.
Nash’s older brother, 25-year-old Darris Nash, suffered from a weakened heart muscle condition known as dilated cardiomyopathy, and underwent a heart transplant in January 2006.
A fifth-round draft choice by Tennessee in 2005, Nash played in three games for the Titans, and the Broncos signed him as a free agent last season.
He played in three games for Denver, rushing for 66 yards on 18 carries. In his two-year career, he had 24 carries for 98 yards and seven receptions for 55 yards.
