Stephen Sir scored 22 points and Ruben Boykin Jr. had 19 points and 11 rebounds as Northern Arizona beat Northern Colorado 89-77 Tuesday night to clinch the No. 2 seed in the upcoming Big Sky Conference tournament.
The win in the regular-season finale gave the Lumberjacks (17-11, 11-5 Big Sky) a first-round bye in the tourney that begins Saturday on Weber State’s campus in Ogden, Utah.
Northern Colorado (4-24, 2-14) got 15 points apiece from Dwayne Birden and Kirk Archibeque.
Boykin scored all of his 19 points in the first half and NAU made 53 percent of its field goals in the first half to take a 47-36 lead.
Birden’s 3-pointer with 6:16 remaining got Northern Colorado within 70-69 but the Lumberjacks went on a 13-3 run over the next 4:18 to seal the victory.
Tyrone Bazy finished with 16 points for NAU and Ryan McCurdy added 11.
