ENGLEWOOD, Colo.-

Police serving a theft warrant Thursday evacuated an apartment building after they found what they believed to be an explosives manufacturing operation.

Police closed the street, evacuated the 20-unit building and summoned bomb squads from Denver and Arapahoe County. Two suspicious devices that contained electrical components were destroyed, but it was determined they did not contain any explosives, Englewood police spokesman John Hoehler said.

Residents were allowed back into their apartments more than seven hours after being evacuated.

Hoehler said Englewood police were helping police from the nearby town of Lone Tree serve a felony theft warrant on 45-year-old Robert Herrle about 11 a.m. when they found “what appeared to be homemade explosive devices” inside his apartment.

Authorities also reported finding possible bomb components and what appeared to be the makings of a methamphetamine lab.

Police in Lone Tree, about 14 miles south of Englewood, took Herrle into custody. Besides theft charges stemming from a price-swapping scheme involving electronics, Hoehler said Herrle may face additional charges from Englewood.
