Getting your player ready...

BOULDER, Colo.-

First-team, all-Big 12 basketball player Richard Roby will be back at Colorado for his senior year.

Last spring, Roby took advantage of NCAA rules that permit underclassmen a one-time chance to declare for the NBA Draft and still return to school. After going through the process to test his skills against other prospects, Roby announced in June that he would return to CU for his junior year.

With opponents gearing defenses to stop him, Roby has averaged 17 points a game, just like last year, but his shooting percentages have fallen. As a sophomore, Roby hit 42 percent of his shots. This year, he’s shooting 38 percent.

“I want to play in the NCAA Tournament,” Roby said. “That’s been my goal. Every March, I watch it and I envy the guys that are playing in it. I want to do that.”

CU has not played in an NCAA Tournament in Roby’s first two seasons. The Buffs reached the NIT in 2006.

CU (6-19, 2-13 Big 12) plays its home finale Saturday against Nebraska (11:30 a.m., ALT) and then goes to Oklahoma City next week for the Big 12 Tournament. The Buffs have already clinched the 12th seed; no 12 seed has won a game in the Big 12 Tournament.
