Michael Goltra had two goals and two assists as the 20th-ranked University of Denver men’s lacrosse team beat No. 19 Maryland-Baltimore County 13-8 on Sunday in the Pioneer Face-Off Classic at Peter Barton Stadium.
Denver (3-2) also got two goals from Jon Paulson. The Pioneers started the game on a 5-0 run.
Andy Gallagher led the Retrievers (2-1) with five goals.
Villanova scored three unanswered goals in the fourth period to earn a 9-8 win over Air Force in Face-Off Classic.
Griffin Nevitt’s three goals led Air Force (1-2). Tim Atkins scored three goals to lead Villanova (2-2).
Freshman Ali Flury scored five goals and Kristie Leggio added four as the Denver women’s lacrosse team downed Longwood 20-9 in Farmville, Va.
Three of Leggio’s goals keyed a 5-0 run by Denver (3-1) in the second half.
CU women upset No. 14 Baylor in tennis
Monica Milewski earned a 6-4, 6-4 victory at No. 1 singles over Baylor’s Zuzana Cerna, and the No. 43-ranked University of Colorado women’s tennis team upset the No. 14 Bears 5-2 in Boulder. The Buffaloes (7-3, 3-0 Big 12) are off to their best start since 2003.
