Pueblo – Jesse Wagstaff scored 19 points and grabbed nine rebounds as the Metro State men’s basketball team downed surprising Adams State 70-60 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Tournament title game Sunday at the State Fair Events Center.
The Roadrunners (27-3) earned the conference’s automatic bid into the NCAA Division II Tournament. Their seed was to be announced late Sunday.
Wagstaff was voted the tournament’s most valuable player. Marquise Carrington added 17 points for Metro State.
Adams State (16-13) was led by Roman Moniak’s 18 points. Wes Jensen added 16. The Grizzlies upset Nebraska-Kearney in the semifinals Saturday for just their second postseason win.
Women
Denise Lopez notched a second double-double in as many games as Regis beat Metro State 76-62 to win the RMAC title.
Lopez finished with 15 points and 12 rebounds and was named the tournament MVP.
Breanne Burley had 14 points for Regis (24-6).
Metro State (24-6) was led by Danielle Ellerington’s 15 points.
