DENVER-
The Host Committee for the Democratic National Convention on Tuesday named a fund raiser with Colorado ties to fill its top finance position.
Melissa Koenigsberg, who served as finance director for Colorado Democratic Sen. Ken Salazar, will serve as the committee’s chief financial officer, in charge of raising $40 million for the convention.
In addition to working for Salazar, Koenigsberg was a regional finance director for North Carolina Sen. John Edwards’ bid for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2004 and helped Martin O’Malley raise $17 million in his successful run for Maryland governor last year.
Committee member Steve Farber said fundraising is the committee’s top priority.
The convention is scheduled for Aug. 25-28, 2008, at the Pepsi Center. It is expected to attract 35,000 people, including 4,950 delegates and alternates.
